It's a crapshoot. Some are allright, some spin a bearing.

I wouldn't do it unless I had a small budget set aside for a rebuild.

lol, actually it was untill i droped it instaling the cam about 3k miles ago, haha. Back to the original question if you do cam it just be sure to do a really clean install, dirt and other crap that fall into the motor lead to spun bearings to a point...

Also, the hotcam isnt huge, BUT you will want to spin it up to 6400 or so. If you go with a smaller cam, possible a crane 227 cam, you wont have to spin it past 6100 or so and be a tad safer.

150,000

put in my p&p heads and cc306 and alot of other mods with around 150,000 miles on the clock.. only spinning to 6200 to save the motor until I can afford a stroker kit. but so far it's still a beast, only second opti, non vented. only changed when I put cam in.but first was still good. now I have over 160,000 on the bottom end. now if only the 4l60's would hold up. going on my third one since h/c. and getting this one built right...

Check some older posts by speed demon24. He put down around 350 rwhp
with the Crane 227, ported heads and full bolt ons. The smaller cams with
heads and supporting mods are not too shabby. If you do not have any
emmissions requirements, you may as well step up on the cam. You can
move up to the GM 846, CC 503 or similar and make a bit more power w/o
needing to spin the engine past 6,200.

My #'s with the 227 are with stock heads and stock exhaust manifolds.

You, my friend, are a gamblin' man. I also doubt that cam needs 6900 rpm to stay in the power band, with stock heads that is. I'd say more like 6400-6500.

haha, yeah i know, if she goes that just forces me to build er up. I had my shift light at 6800 when i ran the 12.4, i never got around to experiment with shifting lower to see if that would improve my times. I just really need to get out of the hole, that 1.99 60' is killing me.
