cam question
cam question
ok first off i want to appologize for this redundant question.
My friend has a 97 WS6 6 speed, and were gonna cam it. Its basically stock, with the exception of the exhaust and it has no cats. Were going to be using some LT headers, but for now the rest will be basically stock. Driving will be mostly street with some track time, and a little playing on the street. SO, what cam should we use? Im just not really sure what cam the LT1 motors like or dont like. Also if you can send me links, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Do a little research on cams and ya will feel better about making a selection or ask a(several) cam manufacturer about their recommendation..

Lift is lift.

Again lift ain't everything.Your heads probably don't flow much past there.
Re: cam question
imho you're putting too much worry on lift. worry about the duration and overlap that the camshaft has and get that fitted to what you want to do. the duration and overlap will be the defining factors to the way the car will behave and what rpms it will like (idle lope, drivability, etc). after you get that squared away start looking at lift figures but remember when you look at lift you have to consinder what springs you intend to run with it. the more radical the lobe you run is the more expensive things are going to get spring pushrod and rocker wise and the more likely you're going to end up with a failure or have more frequent spring replacement etc. the valvetrain is a complicated place to dive into. if you'd give out some more info about the car as far as gearing tire diameter desired rpm range, and even a budget.. you'll get a lot more help.
