Cam Project List, please give feedback :)

This is my list for my next cam upgrade... If anyone has any opinions on things I should change and ways that I can save money (big one), please comment.

If you can't view the list then hover over it with your mouse and wait for the button in the bottom right to appear then click it. It will make it full size for you.

Project List

Thanks

Edit: I didn't list lube or any consumables, so don't worry about that....

Also do you think I can get the stock replacement timing gears and chain from Jason for cheaper?

And... will this setup work with my unvented opti? Just gotta shave the pin if I remember correctly...

Don't need to touch your pin. I just did this kit from CMS.

On 94, the pin is only used to locate the timing cam gear to the cam.

Did you list springs? The EX springs are a decent upgrade.

Why not spend $20 more and get the 7/16th studs? When you get the 1.6RRs NSA CMS gives you the guideplates. Well worth the upgrade. Something to consider.

The gasket swap kit is unreal, and comes with a TON of gaskets.

10128485 is the p/n for the timing chain. You might save a few bucks by getting the set from Jason, but maybe not worth it by the time you pay separate shipping from him. I realize you are stuck with that set unless you convert to a vented opti.

I would go with 7/16" studs, NSA rockers and GM guideplates p/n 14011051. Very little extra money to do this.

When you say unreal you mean that it includes just about everything you need for the swap and then some right?

I already have a set of springs from Comp Cams that can support .600 lift, so those should be good. If they start to float I'll replace them. Can you think of anything else I should need to make the op go smooth. I've done this before with no problems. Just want to make sure I'm not forgetting anything...

When I pulled out the gasket kit, it had EVERYTHING.

Look at it all!

Intake gaskets is what you'll need. The Felpro kit comes with RTV.

You'll need to remove the oil pump gear to get the cam in and out. When you get the new cam in all the way to the end, the last journal may be tough to align. I took a thick screwdriver and put it into the hole in the middle of the cam and used it a leverage to pull up the cam to meet the last journal.

Use assembly lube. Just remember to replace the oil filter shortly after startup. Assembly lube kills oil filters.
