Cam pin length.

Exactly how long is the dowel pin for the opti on a 95? And if I needed to buy a longer one, how hard would it be to replace and where could I get one.

Dunno the exact length of the dowel, but it stick out 5/8" from the cam. It's 1/4" in diameter, at least what I measured with a ruler (left my calipers at work). Never had to do it but I image you will have to do it with the camshaft out. Maybe an auto parts store or Summit carries dowels. It's a common item.

The cam is currently not in right now. But I'm upgrading everything to 95+ so I need the longer dowel pin. Thanks.

what cam are you using because you cant just put a longer dowl in your 92-94 cam you would have to drill out the center of the cam for the 95+ opti to fit

Are you guys saying the cc306 has the longer pin as in the later opti unit?

Because I'm getting the cc306 cam and Im curious on what opti unit i will need, so im guessing ill need the 95-97 one if i change to the cc306, right?

The 95+ cam dowel pin should be part number 10214485 -- $2.19 + 7.95(S&H) = $10.29 from http://www.gmpartsdirect.com

LT1g3n -- most aftermarket LT1 cams are set up for the 95+ LT1. The 306 is not an exception. This isnt a problem -- if you have a '93-94, then just cut the dowel to match your stock cam (~.310"), or have it pressed in.

Thank you! $8 for shipping&handling =

LT1g3n - Also keep in mind if you want to convert to an electric w/p and want a heavier duty chain.

opti

well thats just it, i dont even have my opti unit yet, so whichever would be easier to do, thats the one i want ... and also the 95-97 one is cheaper in price, so if thats the one i need, thats the one i should probably buy, cuz i got cc306 cam... and about to buy the opti... but i want to make sure i get the right one..

I bought a used cam years ago and unfortunately it had been cut down (and of course I'm a 95). I took it to a machine shop and they pulled out the cut dowel and put in my stock dowel (the cam was out of the car) for $5. It's an option if you can't find a dowel that will fit.

The dowel on the 306 sitting next to me is ~.645. I might hammer it in a tad, but it should be ok as it is, im goign to measure my stock dowel when it comes out.
