cam for a non vented opti
cam for a non vented opti
searched for an answer and didnt find one, so dont flame me!!
I was searching online for a cam on summitracing and i was looking at cmp cams 268xfi. so i called up summit to ask them for a cam with the shorter dowel pin for my cam and they told me that the cam will work in both vented and non-vented opti spark. I thought that each has its own camshaft, little confused and need so help.
thanks

Yeah, they don't know what they're talking about. Just tell them you need it for a 94, or call comp directly and get it from them. If it's too long, it's not hard to grind it down a bit for the non-vented opti.

The advice was not incorrect. You just have to adjust the dowel pin length.... not real hard to do.
A non-vented Opti will work with either cam. The drive shaft for a non-vented Opti rests in the cam sprocket, not in the nose of the cam. A vented Opti will only work with a cam that has the larger pilot hole for the Opti shaft. That's because although the vented Opti is driven by the longer dowel pin, it still has a "shaft" and the shaft fits into the pilot hole in the end of the cam.
