cam or LE1 on 88k LT1?

had some big plans for this summer with a complete motor build, but funds are much less than expected and i have to decide which way to go. some background info, my 94 Z M6 has 117k on it, doesnt burn oil and runs great. to get an idea of how much i drive it i put 17k on it since i bought it june 2006. i have a 94 88k LT1 sitting in my garage right now that has been for sale for $700, but since nobody has picked it up, i want to cam it or heads/cam it and throw it in my car. i was thinking comp XE 224/230 cam and 1.6 rockers, springs, and such. not sure how much this will all cost or what HP numbers to expect, if anyone knows let me know please. other option ive been looking into is the LE1 package, cuz its only $1200 and should give around 370 at the wheels.

from what ive read both of these packages are very streetable, and since my car is my road trip vehicle (1000 miles round trip to school, done about 6 times a year), i need it to be reliable. i plan on LT headers, clutch, mail order tune and possibly injectors with either of these packages. i just dont know how much stress an 88k LT1 can take and still be reliable, if the cam would be easier on it ill go that route even if its less hp.

my last option is to leave my car alone cuz its reliable as it is now, and tinker with my new (1979) truck instead and drop a GM crate 350 in it (brand new 290hp longblock is $1000). if anybody has any advice id appreciate it thanks.

The CC503 (224/230) will get you about 340HP/TQ to the wheels, from what I've seen, with a good running setup and tune.

Rough prices:
The cam is going to cost you $250, gasktets $38, stock timing chain set $100, springs $250, 1.6 Prognum RR's and 7/16" studs $300. Misc RTV...$20

Instead of buying a new 350 for the truck why not put the XE 224/230 in the LT1 and then drop it in the truck. This will keep the Z reliable and you will save $ and still give the truck a shot in the arm. Just a thought. Otherwise I would just cam or LE1 to the current motor in the car (save time and $) and save the other LT1 for if/when the 117k motor starts to go out.

dropping the LT1 into the truck was the original plan till i realized i could build a cheaper sbc and have more head selection than if i used the LT1. also i would need intake manifold, timing pointer, radiator, and a couple other things that make it not worth it.

im really leaning towards the cam because its cheaper, and would take less time than if i had to ship out the heads to have them ported. is the cc503 about the same as the comp XE 224/230? ive read alot more about the comp XE than the cc503, ill have to look more into it. im most likely going with ceramic coated pacesetter LTs, either cc503 or XE 224/230, and possibly a clutch. soon as i get paid for painting this house im ordering it all, so hopefully in a week or 2.

Unless I'm wrong, the CC503 is the other name for the XE224/230 that you are talking about. The CC502 is the XE218/224
