cam install nightmare

ok...the install went good...i only had to rig one thing and thats the timing set. I put a new cam sprocked and chain on a old (130k mile) crank sprocket.

the motor started right up...you had to press the gas like a carb. motor otherwise it would die at idle.

also it didnt rev up as you gave it more gas.

now sometimes it will start but no matter how much gas you give it...it wont stay running.

any ideas?

TPS is fine, coil is fine, plug wires are correct....where do i begin

Timing chain might be off. You 100% sure it was installed correctly?

I agree with the rockers being too tight . No offense, but if you asked how to adjust them they are too tight.

Go re-lash them and start the car, then while the car is running pull the valve covers off and back them off till you can hear them clack. then tighten them till they cease to clack loudly. In the case of pro-mags, Some noise is acceptable.

hand tight is definitly zero lash. Even if you have gorrilla strong fingers and go a few degrees past there is going to be a larger varience in how many degrees you turn them with the wrench anyways.

You do understand WHEN to adjust which rockers though right?

It could be the rockers.... never had to adjust them yet (still have the stockers) so I can't help you there. But, before you take off your valve covers, double check all your vacuum lines. Make sure there are no hoses that have been left off or mis-routed. Also verify that the right spark plug wires are on the places on the opti. Shoebox has a diagram on his website. HTH
