cam install?: best product and best prices

i just bought a hotcam kit minus the 1.6's and a 2400 stall for my 97 ss.

i know i need a tranny cooler, a new pan gasket and filter cause i wanna flush it all out while i have it apart. but what i need to know is what gaskets do i need for the cam install. is there a kit i could buy? what kind of RR's should i go with, i want 1.6's SA 3/8"? should i get an LT4 intake while im at it since i have to take mine off anyways? i have stock heads, while im in there would it be a good idea to just pull the heads and put a thinner gasket in to boost compression? and where is the cheapest place to get an LT4 Extreme Duty timing set too. i know i will have to get my comp retuned also but thats free so im good on that. just shoot me some prices part numbers suggestions any kind of advice and remeber im a poor college student thanks

First off.....you need the 3 seals for the crank...opti...and water pump drive, also the cover gasket. As far as the rockers....go with 1.6's You should also get springs..retainers and keys.

About the LT4 intake...forget it. I'm probably wrong but you need the LT4 heads to match.....well maybe not but you'll have to match port them if not. (not sure). Either way it aint worth it.

Leave the heads alone. Dont pull them just to put on a gasket!!!!

Timing chain.....Go to Jason Cromer. He's all over this board and he'll get it shipped to you for like 190.00

Why didnt you just get the HotCam Kit???

you can get LT4 intake to match a lt1 head... they get milled, and sometime u can see lt4 intakes on ebay that are already milled

but otherwise, they will not fit

i bought the hotcam kit off a guy who dropped a valve before he could install it and now he is going with a 396 lt4 with a huge custom grind cam but he kept the 1.6s for himself i got a really good deal on everything else in the kit so i took it. i also got the 2400 stall he was gonna use but now is going with a 3500 stall.

go to www.thunderracing.com they have a complete gasket set for changing a cam in an LT1. It's about $84. They also have valve stem seals, locks, and you might need some spring locators, dependong on which springs you got.

I would recommend at least getting new lifters if possible (~$170) and for sure new hardened Comp push rods as well (~$39). Those are all at that link I posted as well as the gasket set and seals, etc etc.

As for rocker arms, depends on how much money you want to spend. I got the magnum self aligning rocker arms (1.6 ratio) cause I couldn't afford the Pro magnums. But they work just fine. If you can spend the extra $100+ then go w/ the pros, otherwise, I haven't had any problems with the magnums.

I ran stock lifters for years...in the 11's for years at that. Many 6500 rpm shifts...
