Question cam idle

Thinking about the xe 224/230 but was wondering what the idle would be like with 112 LSA. Too rough? Anyone have sound clips of this cam? Thanks.

There is no such thing as too rough. The 112 sounds kinda tame to me Just make sure that You match the cam to your heads.

Stock heads for now. Maybe a port and polish in the future.

I wouldn't do any cam without the headwork. Too much work and You will not see anywhere near the gains that You could from the cam. It could really kill You up top too. My stockers only flowed around 195 at .040 and really got crappy after that. That really isn't enough air to support that cam. This is just my humble opinion and I hope your car meets your expectations.

I wouldn't go so far to say not to do any cam before headwork. I've had good results with a small cam and stock heads before I had the money to get my heads/intake done and get a bigger cam.

Hell...I've even seen people on here get great results with bigger cams and stock heads. True you will not be getting everything out of the cam that you can....but not doing a cam at all until you have your heads done IMO is going a bit overboard especially considering how small the 224/230 is.

I agree, i dont think heads are needed on my car with my hotcam. I felt decent gains from it. I know i can see more with heads but i dont think they are needed at all right now.

I didn't mean that I wouldn't go with any cam with stock heads. The hot cam has shown some pretty good results with stock heads. But as I understand it, the XE grinds have pretty aggressive lobes. He would need to machine the heads for the pretty stout springs and retainers that he will need. The hotcam is on a 114 lobe sep if I'm not mistaken. I just think that the 112 is too tight for a stock head. Just my opinion.

Hotcam is 112 LSA. How about the idle? Any thoughts?

The idle is a little lumpy, but it is nothing that you cannot live with.

Idle is much more lopey than stock due to the 112 LSA BUT I'm sure you will want to go bigger after getting used to the Hotcam if that is what you decide on.

I got my Hotcam kit because I didn't have the money to do everything that goes along with a bigger cam and like many others before me, it didn't take long before I wanted bigger and better.

I didn't state that right. Both cams are 112 LSA, but I want to go with the XE 224/230. Like the first post, my concern is idle on a daily drive. I will go to 1.6 RRs too, so the lift will be in the upper 5s.

You really don't have to worry about idle with that cam, it's nothing radical but you might want to look into tuning it yourself or trying out PCMforless or Madwolf on the board so you can change your rev limiter, bump up the idle, clean up the A/F, etc.
