Question Cam help??

I just took out my lt4 hotcam and put in a 306 cam. To set the timing, I got the number 1 cylinder at tdc and lined up the marks on the crank and cam gears. A local engine builder says I have to use a degree wheel to set it at the right centerline. Suppose to be 108 I guess. Anyone have any idea on what hes talking about. I havent dealt with this before. Thanks

Re: Cam help??

Using a degree wheel will tell you how much ICL you actually have your cam installed on. There's little you can do to correct it if its wrong.

Re: Cam help??

I believe that #1 cyl @ T.D.C. is when the dot on the cam gear is @ the 12o' clock position. When the dots are opposite each other,12 &6 the #6 cyl is @ T.D.C.
