Cam Help
Re: Cam Help
I have heard of CA cars passing smog with the CC503 and a good tune. This
is about the most cam you can pass with in CA, unless you have a 383 or
larger. Check the Impala SS board. There is a thread on this topic.

Re: Cam Help
I am pretty sure that any of those cams (LT4, CC305 or CC 503) will pass maryland emissions with a cat.
I still want to know what RPM you guys shift the CC305 and CC 503 at beacase I am also making my decision on how high I want to spin my 120K mile bottom end.

Thank you, i read some posts on that.
Still looking for RPM shift of CC 503 vs CC 305.
Re: Cam Help
I can't quite give you an answer to the shift point up top of those cams, but I did however want to remind you to not forget to throw in a nice 2800-3000 stall converter with whichever of those cams you choose...That stall speed won't be very loose w/ your 3.42's and that combo will work great with one of those cams in your daily-driver...You'll be giving up an easy 5 tenths in the full 1/4 staying with the stock converter FYI.
And don't forget to throw a B&M tranny cooler in there too...
BTW, has a search yielded any info on where people like to shift these cams? Also, talk to some of the tuners on the board (Madwolf, Bryan @ PCM4LESS, etc.) who set the rev limiters accordingly dependent upon each person's set-up...
Mike
P.S. Is the stock 4L60E still in the car? If so, I'd just have it replaced with a much better built one (FLP Level 4 4L60E or a CPT 4L60E) because I doubt at 120,000 miles it will hold up to much abuse after the stall & cam go in.

Re: Cam Help
Just about everyone with lots of experience in LT1's say they really dont like XE Grinds like the 224/230. I have seen a few perform well, but alot more not even perform satisfactory.
The CC305 is a nice cam, but I'd have to personally say I'd go for the GM 846 above all 3 of these. 222/230 .509/.528 (1.5 ratio). I cant say for sure its going to pass emissions, but since its so close to the CC305 I dont think you'll have a problem.
If any option was open I'd email Bret Bauer and have him make me a cam for exactly what I wanted. He'll squeeze the most possible power out of a emissions friendly cam.
Also look into some better header options. MAC/RK Sport/SLP/AS&M. Make sure you listen to a LM with headers and a cam. I've heard a few, and its not at all entertaining to me. Dont forget all your bolt ons, TC, and gears.
