Cam Decision 94 z28 and 95 z28

I need some help with a decision on which cam to go with on my 94 and 95 z28. I've heard that the lt-4 hot cam from summit works better with a gear and stall just wondering if that's true. If it is, is there any other cam i should with and which one? I'm looking for some power and sound but these cars are daily drivers so i'm not looking for something too extreme. And I know i'll be needing a tune more than likely if you could also point me in the right direction as that goes too. Thanks for the help

Read this inside and out as many times as possible. It is chocked with all of the information you'll need.

Search is your friend. I assure you that this topic has been beaten to death on this forum and you will find the answers your are looking for.

Many people will insist that you can drive a CC306, 503, or GM847 Cam daily, but based on how you posed the question, you are looking for a little lump in the idle and some power increase with probably little if any sacrifice in drivability. The LT4 hot cam kit was very popular for years. There may be better grinds out there now with similar characteristcs to the Hot Cam that will make a bit more power, but it is hard to beat the inclusivness of the kit and the price. its a good value. You do not need to change injectors but you would need a good tune for it to run right and get all the power and drivablity. The good news there is that you can get a mail order tune pretty easily that will be just about dead on since this combination has been done so many times. I would also recommend an increased stall and some gears and the standard supporting boltons. A list of current mods would also help with recommendations. Good luck!

For a stock car, I would avoid the hot cam and step right up to the cc503 like I did. Its a great cam, and I had zero cam surge and drivability issues with it. Its now for sale with 1700 miles if your interested in it.

A cam install using quality new parts is going to run you around $1000.

There's no such thing as a "1.96" exhaust valve. Valve size is only a small part of the equation. Who is doing the porting?

The CC502 is not a bad cam at all. You can probably get away with using the stock stall, although something in the 2800-3200 range would be better. Also, that cam will work fine with the stock as-cast heads and intake (the stock intake can support tons of power). If you are going to have the heads ported, you could step up to something more aggressive than the 502.

Higher stall or not, 3.73s are a great upgrade.

Get a custom grind. You tell the maker exactly what you want and they make it for your car.
