Cam

Hey everyone...I'm ready to learn about cams...lol. Not really I know what ca do I know how they work and all that. What I do want to know is what can I have that will pass emissions. I have been thinking and I belive I can pass with a 224/230 CC. But now what I don't understand is the whole timing thing. I need an ignition (MSD?) so I can chnage the timing??? Is that right? Tht what some one told me and that makes no sense! Thanks very much!!

you can adjust the timing with a program called LT1 Edit. I dont think its possible to adjust timing with an MSD ignition on these type of cars.

I believe the cam your looking for is a cc 305 cam. This is a great cam that will pass the sniffer too . Alot of people have had good experiences with this cam. Not to lump and not stock sounding.

You're basically saying you can pass emission with that cam without tuning?
I would have the PCM re-programmed, and that will take care of timing, and everything else that would make your car run at optimum performance.

Has anyone ever but a cam in while the engine is still in the car? I was thinking if you could take EVERYTHING off of the front then you might be able to slide in the cam like that. Just take the bumber, reinforcements, rad., pump...everything off it could possibly work??? What do u guys think?

2 years ago, my mechanic installed a cam for me by just removing the radiator to fit it from the front. I don't think you have to remove the bumper, though.

Don't even have to take the bumper off/bumper cover. Just have to take off the ac condenser and radiator. Or you could try to bend the condenser up and out of the way, but then you run the risk of breaking the lines.

Really??? I can't believe that all you have to do is the rad and compressor...any one have an install page?? I would like to check that out. I thought that there would be no space even if i did take it all out without having the bumper removed. But now I am even more anxious to dive right into this install! Can anyone tell me more about this LT1 Edit program thing?? How does it advance your timing....how does it basically tune your car? Sorry lots of questions but I haven't done a cam on a "computer" car before. Thank you for all of your help!!

Link doesn't work buddy. I would definately be interested in seeing this. I have always heard that you have to tear down the whole block in order to install a cam if this is the case you wouldn't ever have to replace any gaskets....correct??

Sorry, didn't put enough info in my reply. I was just trying to say that he didn't have to take the noise/bumper off his car. Not that he wouldn't have to take a part the motor.
You're still going to take off the intake manifold, timing cover, etc.. so you will need gaskets.

www.pcmforless.com ....this is where you can get your computer tuned by someone else. the guy who does its name is Bryan Herter and he is easy to talk to and does great work. this is the route i would take if i were you. LT1 edit is a complicated tuner which you will likely get no help with whereas Bryan will do it all for you and at a cheaper price than what LT1 edit will cost...especially so since you have OBD2 PCM you are looking at $500 or more for it!

also that XE224/230 will probably be easier to pass on a sniffer than the cc305 and you will get more out of it.
