Re: cam

Cc305 is one of the largest lift off the shelf cams that does not require replacing the torque converter although it would still benefit. There will probably be some replys that the cc305 is junk but if you dont wanna upgrade the torque converter then it is an option.

If you're going to replace the converter, just get a gm847 and call it a day. Best cam for stock unported heads.

Re: cam

IMO both bits of advise you got plus the HOTCAM idea are all poor.

For stock stall I would do something like the Crane 227 or the Lingenfelter 211/219, I would also encourage you to reconsider the stall think.

I started with a ZZ4 crate motor cam which is 208/221 with stock exhaust manifolds, stock gears and stock stall. The gains I got as I finally gave it the gears, stall and headers it needed were huge and this is a smaller cam than even the ones I mentioned much less the other cams mentioned here.

CC305 is a very small cam and only slightly (extrememly slightly) larger than the Hotcam. Plus it's a very old grind and been around for over 15 years. There are plenty of more modern grinds and better solutions out there these days, including a custom grind from LE.

Re: cam

Lloyd Elliott 223/230 .565/.565 112lsa.

Similar to a hotcam and cc503 and will pass emissions and have close to stock mileage. This cam will make more power throughout the powerband and should expect to see a 10rwhp gain over the cc503.With the growing popularity of custom grinds this is hands down on the best dd cams out there. The cam is supposed to work with stock converter buts suggested to run one for better gains. I would suggest if you dd it alot then something in the 2600-2800. If you just dont care about how it behaves on the street then by all means you can go up to a 3600 but how you drive it that will make that decision.

Re: cam

Why are you against a stall?
If you are only doing ONE, then the stall is better.

3 reasons why a stall is BETTER than a cam.

Similar gas mileage, if not better with a stall instead of cam.
faster.
easier install.

Most cams with a stock stall will feel like a pig down low and pull hard up top.
The stall is the opposite. It's an animal down low and slower up top.

Re: cam

Hard to judge how much power the a4 sucks up vs an M6. I know cam only cc503 m6 cars were in the 340-350rwhp range so i would assume it be in the 350+rwhp range but yours being an a4 id say somewhere in the 330-340rwhp area with that LE cam.

Re: cam

You really need to stay smaller than that with a stock stall.

Stay with the stock cam and go with 1.7's and the Yank SS 3600.

Re: cam

ss3600 will make your car fly; I would do that instead of the cam any day. Make sure you add a trans cooler to keep the trans running cooler. You will be much more happy with the stall than a small cam alone.
