Cam?

I was wondering what kind of cam i should go with. I am thinking the hotcam.. I have a stock lt1 with 3.73s and built a4 with 2800 stall and hypertech programmer and full exhaust.. I was thinking the hot cam with a slp cai.. Would this be a nice combo for low 13s? i run a 13.54 now.

Check out this article on Camshafts: LT1Wiki: Camshafts 101

It'll explain the basics of a cam, so you understand what you're looking for.

For bang for the buck, the LT4 Hot Cam Kit is not a bad route to go. An all inclusive kit for ~$500 is definitely not a bad deal by any means. It is extremely streetable, and I'm sure you'll enjoy the boost in power.

There are better streetable cams out there, but to piece the kit together takes a little more research, and a little more money (unless you come across the parts used/cheap).

With your goals not being very extreme, you'll definitely be able to pull it off without sacrificing too much streetability.

Thats the one, it will be fine with the addition of nitrous. I would upgrade the springs though as the ones in the kit really aren't cut out for both the cam and the higher ratio rocker arms.

I think some people have had issues with the springs. Personally I've run them for an extended period of time with the cam and rockers included in the kit without any issues.

My car has trapped as high as 117 on a 100 shot with that cam. It isn't 'nitrous-friendly' per se, but its not like it doesn't like nitrous either. You'll see good gains out of it with the Hot Cam Kit and Nitrous, but for the long term I'd look into a set of springs good to .550" lift just to be safe.

Lt4 hotcam leaves people wanting more IMHO. You should settle for something like the CC503 its the biggest cam you can run on stock heads. Prolly a mid 12 sec cam with your mods. You will need the supporting valvetrain mods though such as valve springs, pucsh rods, and you should get 1.6 RR for more lift. Do a search on it and you will find more info.

The Hotcam kit is fine. Would better springs be a good idea, yes. Or if you want to spend some more money, go with the 503 and a set of Pac beehive springs with all the rest of the supporting valvetrain parts. Don't skimp if you put together you own kit.
