Re: cam

Hey, as long as you have good oil pressure - why not. Obviously put a new timing chain and valvesprings on it. I also did my front cam bearing too. Apparently the water pump drive puts alot of strain on that bearing. Mine was really worn. I spin the crap out of this thing and it just keeps getting faster.

Re: cam

Just be clean about the install. Too many guys do a cam/head swap and don't follow a cleanleness pattern and end up getting crap in the motor causing a spun bearing shortly there after. At 112,000 miles go for it.

Re: cam

My first swap was at 113,000 miles. I pulled the motor and we swapped out for fresh cam bearings. The front cam bearing looked pretty bad, but the rest looked pretty good. No problems here and I've swapped cams again.

Re: cam

Its kind of hard to tell the state of the motor without being there, but if it revs good, has no ticks/taps, doesnt burn oil/ coolant etc.. Should be allright. Just make sure your not putting a cam in an already tired motor then your looken for trouble, and probably wasting your time.

Re: cam

Well, you can always go with a custom grind, or an off the shelf cam like the XE 230/236, or the new XFI series cams. Mine is a bit on the small side but you can really hear it at 725 rpms where I have my idle set. It makes a boat load of torque and would work great with a 3.73 and 3200.

Re: cam

Since you are going to be pulling the tranny anyway.....yank the motor, it will be soooo much easier to do the cam swap when it is out. And, as long as it is out, replace the cam bearings and pop on a new oil pump. GM pump is perfectly fine. Then you will likely have no problems and be good to go for another couple of hundred thousand miles.
