Cam???

hey ive got a 96' T/A, 6sp. i've got the Hooker Cat-back, short throw shifter, and Cold air. Ive got about 800-850 dollars to spend on my car and i was wondering what i could do to get the most BANG for my buck...i was thinkin a cam (no idea what kind), gears (4.10) and a tune. but i have no idea what i need other that the cam (such as do i need to get new lifters, so on...). so what could i do for that amount that would really boost me on my performance???

tks guys, any info is appreciated!!!!!!

Re: Cam???

There have been a lot of posts about cams You might consider a search. One comment: if you can't do the cam swap yourself (or have a friend do it) you can forget doing it for 800-850. Paying somone else, the labor is going to be in that range. It's a pretty big job. It also has to be done right or major engine problems will often result. One of the the most economical parts selection, which also work pretty decent on a stock motor, is the "Hotcam" kit from GM. ~$500 gets you the cam, aluminum roller rockers, springs, etc.

Re: Cam???

The gears would help the car, 4.10's will make it hard to launch and if you get some dr's then you will be able to break the 10 bolt. 3.73 will be better since there are more teeth on the gear ring. Many people will tell you that 3.73's are a waste of time. I have them and couldn't be happier, they are a good balance of street/strip. The hotcam cam comes as a kit, 525 is the best price I have ever seen. It will give you good gains, especially after tuning. good luck
