It's never cheap to have someone else work on your car. Figure $65/hr and between 12 and 14 hours to swap the cam and springs. Then figure in the cost of the cam, springs, gaskets and fluids and as I said, not cheap. You may try to do it yourself, it's really not as hard as most people make it out to be.

Chris is right. It's an expensive job because it is quite time consuming. Cam and heads go together because a lot of the work is redundant and that the two complement each other so well.

i wont say its easy but if you are mechanicly incline, then learn to do it yourself. I did and it stared up the first try.

Foloow the directions and you will be fine. Also take pics of hoses and wires to make it easier to put back together.

so if i am doing the cam and the other components that compliment it i shoud have the heads bored. from what i have read .030 is a good amount not to go overboard. (actually met a guy today that has a shop and does that for a living but didnt get to talk to him to long, owns a machine shop) .
besides getting my motor running in tip top shape and cai this will be the first jump i am gonna take. actually thinking about it the money i am putting in to this should i just build 383 stroker.
my goal is to get into the high 12 and still be street driven

High 12's? Heck, you can get into the low 12's with stock heads. I did!

You don't bore the heads, you shave em, port em and polish em. The block is what gets bored out.

Before you start doing heads and cam, you want to have all the supporting mods to get the most air in and out of the engine. A CAI is a good start, then add a full exhaust system including headers and cat back.
