Cam[cc305] Install Problems.
We are having issues with the oil pan gasket. It tore a tiny bit on each side but enough to serperate the front piece from the side pieces.
Do our cars have a 1 piece gasket? or is it multiple?
I was thinking ill buy a new one... cut it to the size that is torn off, and rtv the **** outta it to get it to seal.
Any suggestions?
Also when i pulled my cam the journals seemed a little iffly... their where whiteish lines snaking around them here and their... nothing that I could feel by touch but definently see.
What timing chain should I get? Thats the only part I need to have it all ready to go back together. I need to figure this out, nobody around me can get or has the LT4 til friday.
Thanks

Okay thanks.. ill give it a shot anyway i think....
THe springs I bought too. "Ovate Valve Spring Kit" from comp.
With the stock valve spring seats(i think thats what they are) the things under the seals that the springs rest in.... they are too small diameter to fit. What can I do about this? Do I need new seats? do I remove the seats?
Help please...

Hm.. thats not good. The salesman at the local performance shop wanted me to go buy LT4 springs... but I wanted what comp recommended for it. So he said those springs...
If thats the case I need to return them and buy springs that will work well
Any recommendations?

You'll need something stronger then LT4 springs for sure.
I recommend the 612 single spring kit from combination motorsports. Easy, single spring kit, comes with everything you need, and fits stock heads perfectly.

The CC305 calls for COMP 986 springs. They're good to .560" lift...The CC305 with 1.6 rockers is .544" lift. Problem is, the 986 springs won't work with COMP spring seats for the LT1. I had to go with a set of Crane springs. My head ported got them for me, so I'm not sure of the part number. I do know they're rated for up to .600" lift.

Thanks alot, I just checked on that priceon the cmotorsports springs, and before shipping its over 20 bucks cheaper for those than for the comp springs I bought. Ill call crane and see what they would recommend in my situation.
Also how do I go about replacing the whole oil pan gasket.... I might as well do it right if Im going to do it at all...
Thanks again

Im still in need of a timign chain. Does anytone have a spare LT4 chain/gear set lieing around? Or an electric water pump in good working order so I can get a regular SBC chain?

Where should I jack from? If Im dropping the pan that kind of limits me...
Would I be okay do jack on the trans pan and raise it thatway?
Or should I rent a come-along or a cherry picker to raise the engine.

Yah.. thats why I asked... thanks
Ive already got everything off of the front of the crank and I REALLY dont want to put a jack on the crank itself... even the end.. I guess ill try and find a cherry picker.
Thanks again guys

on my stock heads. I ended up using Manley seats PN 42437-16 and
having the OD machined down to 1.32". I also used Comp 795-16 retainers
(big block style) and +.050" super locks. The resultant installed height
is 1.745". These springs coil bind at 1.085 so at this height they are
good for up to .600" lift.
