Is there any benefit to deleting the stock oil cooler? Does it actually serve a worthwhile purpose? I am doing my oil pan gasket and it's coming off anyway, so what harm would I do if I just put on the A4 hoses to bypass the oil cooler? Is that all there is to it, or do you have to do anything else? Thanks!
I was unaware that the oil cooler had anything to do with the T56. I have seen several Automatic cars with them. People delete them all the time. Some people have actually reported an increase in oil pressure after doing so. It is my understanding that the later LT1 cars didn't have them. When I deleted mine I simply used standard bolts without the studs on them.
The oil cooler I'm referring to is the coolant lines that run to the oil filter and then back to the w/p. Did you delete that?
EDIT: I'm referring to the engine oil cooler, not the tranny oil cooler, which the T-56's do not have I believe.

There were 2 styles of engine oil coolers, the early "steel" style that were based on a Moroso design, and the later aluminum housing style. My 95 M6 came with the aluminum style, which is prone to causing issues as the oil passing through a small screen that is prone to clogging if the engine internals have been worked on (bits of gasket material, RTV), which may promote oil starvation. Many folks have deleted the aluminum ones with no ill affects. The early "steel" style doesn't have the issue of clogging and serves to get your engine oil up to operating temperature earlier, as well as provides some, although maybe minimal, oil cooling. I converted my aluminum style to the steel style.
I am talking about the metal lines that run along side the oil pan (which coolant flows through) and goes into the oil filter. The coolant supposeably draws heat from the oil passing through the oil filter and cools it. Are we on the same page here?
Just pull the cooler above the filter, reattach the adapter with allen bolts and use a long filter.
Cap off the rad and the WP with rubber caps and clamps from the parts house and it is deleted.
Your OP will love ya.

So I can just cap off the rad/waterpump? I figured that the cooler was part of the "circle" that the coolant runs. Would I be able to just run a hose from the rad to the w/p? It would be the same leaving point and destination, just a "shortcut" so to say. Thanks for the help!
Mine's been on the car for 11+ years now, and never a problem. When the engine was torn down for the stroker rebuild 7 years ago, there was nothing wrong with the cooler. I think the side of my cooler (black - probably steel) has a "Modine" sticker on it.
That is the cooler I thought you were talking about. I deleted mine before I put my engine in. I figured since Corvettes didn't run them I don't have to. I do run synthetic oil just like the vettes did. I read many stories of people having problems with the coolers coming apart and collapsing causing engine problems.
