CAI w/ Oiled Filter (K&N) TIP
CAI w/ Oiled Filter (K&N) Prep TIP
Because of all the bad things i read about an over oiled filter crapping up the MAF I did something kind of intresting to help my MAF live longer. While i was cleaning the filter i reoiled it then got a PVC adapter that went from my shopvac size to 3 1/2. After i oiled the filter and let it dry for 15 minutes I hooked it up to the shopvac and let it run for about 3 minutes to purge any excess off. With my CAI the filter is under a body panel so it is a real pain to clean. My MAF is directly behind the oil filter. I didnt want to take the chance of polluting my MAF and this is what i came up with. Hope other people will find it useful.

be careful doing that, K&N says not to use compressed air to clean the filters, but if you have the pressure set low enough you will be ok I guess.
I'd avoid doing that as the element is designed to only flow one way. The better way to re-oil and make sure you don't have any problems is clean and re-oil the filter and then let it sit overnight. All the extra oil will drip off of it (you might want to put some paper towels under it). This is the method I've used on all my K&N (or similar style) filters and I've never had a single problem with them.
I don't know about blowing compressed air through it, which K&N advises against doing, pushing the oil into the filter, but the shop vac idea to suck the air from the back is exactly what your car does anyways when you hit the go pedal. I would say that that idea is fine.
Bono I clean and reoil mine on my LT1 about every 2-4 months. But it is an open element fresh air so it gets dirty quicker. On all my other cars / trucks / motorcycles about once a year or every 20k miles. Hard to put an exact time on it but basically whenever they get dirty. When you can't see light through them well.
