And driveway? You should BE so lucky! I did all of my mods on all of my cars (except for headers on the formula) uncluding pulling an engine and a tranny swap in my front lawn!

And so i dont seem like a total *** I'll be helpful. Go for the intake if you plan on doing headers down the road. A true dual setup is CHEAPER than a cat-back so you might as well just wait. If you arent going to do headers, then go for a cat-back. How a car sounds is every bit as how it looks and performs. With the cat-back you get all 3, sound, shiny tips, and about 15rwhp.
Not all of us live in neighborhoods where it is acceptible to have 3 cars in your front lawn that can't move.

Neighbord hood? HA! 102 acre farm with a 1/4 mile gravel driveway. Delware is the most desolate place. It wouldnt take more then a few hours to put an exhaust and intake on. My cars are never down for more than 2 days (except the wrecked one i use for bolts). I wouldnt do a cam swap or anything in my lawn. I imagine gravel would be horrible. I prefer the grass over the dirt.

LPE CAI - $150 - 12rwhp on bone stock 95 Z/28 - Slight sucking sound
Any decent catback $250-850 - 10-17rwhp - Sweet rumbling sound

Its up to you, but both are worth about the same power level. I felt more top end from the LPE CAI and more through the whole range with my GMMG. Although some catbacks are designed in ways that only benefit top end anyways. I did catback first only cause I wanted to unlock the monster sound I knew was coming out of that 350.

You have to start somewhere. Pick one and go with it. You'll end up getting both after a little while anyway.

Re: CAI or catback first?

when I bought mine it already had the Borla on it and it had a decent sound, but I will say I heard and felt a difference with the Morosso CAI on it. so just pick one now and you will end up doing the other later. if money right now is the problem, get the CAI, almost the same power gain for less money.

Maybe I didn't see it, but the SLP that you have is not polished, or maybe the word "polished" and what I think "polished" means are two different things? I like SLP for performance but there again, I cannot find one that is "chrome polished", the black tubes just don't look good to me. Does K&N offer a "chrome polished" CAI for my car, because I haven't found one yet.

Again, what I'm looking for is a CAI that is "chrome polished" that performs well. Please help so I can bury this!! (OH, I also did a search and couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for...maybe I should start my own thread for this question?)

I like the Lingenfelter's super tube. At around $150 and the largest K&N conical filter, you cant go wrong.

Ah, didn't see the polished part, you're talking about the GMPP CAI, same thing as the SLP but polished... I don't even know if they sell it anymore.

My bad, it was actually the GMPP...I heard the SLP was the same, and didn't know if the GMPP was still available. The car ran 13.7@101 (2.73 gears) with it...same as any of the other cold airs at the time. Back then people used to claim the metal cold airs didn't perform as well as the plastic ones due to heat soaking the intake air, but I never saw any evidence of that.

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' bout, and GM to boot? Can't get much better than that. I'll start searching to see if I can get my hands on one. If you (or anyone) knows a direct link where I can get one, please let me know!

THANKS A MILLION "Blownf1"!!

Question...Although "I" think this one (GMPP) looks great and it's been said that all brands seem to perform pretty much the same, why is it that almost no-one has a GMPP? Is there something I should know or be aware of?

Re: CAI or catback first?

I do beleive GMPP cost more than some other similiar performing setups. Some pay more for looks though, so its up to the driver.

Its true the LPE filter is the size of a 2 liter bottle. Its fuggin huge!

Re: CAI or catback first?

My dad did both at the same time on his 94 Z and it showed a lot of improvement. He has Flowmaster cat-back and Moroso CAI.
