cage options

I am looking to cage my car and wanted to know my options. I want it to be nhra legal for 11.99 to what is is 9.50 or something like that. a 6 pt with swing out bars. my understanding is that you cannot have a removable cross bar or it is not leagal. is this true? I saw jeggs makes one that is really cheap compared to the other I have seen. what kind of prices to shops charge to build one from scratch? any coments or advice are apreacieated.

Assuming you have a coupe, and not a convertible, NHRA requires a 5-point roll bar from 11.99-10.00. Only the driver's side-bar needs to be installed, not the passenger side (although most people opt for the 6-point).

The crossbar can not be removable, although this is not actually stated - just inferred. The rulebook diagram shows a fully welded, fixed 5-point bar, and mentions specifically in the text that the sidebar can be a "swingout". I've seen tech accept removable crossbars - must depend on the track. You should probably review the NHRA rulebook before purchasing or installing. Section 16 - General Requirements, Para. 4:10.

You should get a kit specifically for the 4th Gen. The low $$$ kits are really little more than a pile of loose tubes, that all need to be cut and welded together. Wolfe make a 6-point kit for the 4th Gen that is fairly popular.

Wolfe is more expensive but worth every penny for it.

The time that is required to install a Wolfe compared to the Jegs style is night and day. Wolfe builds there weld in and there bolt in version on a jig to make sure each piece fits exactly to your car. Not only that they also can jig notched them for easy installation for the weld in version.

I went with the weld in version from Wolfe, very happy with it.
