CA Smog w/Crane 227 (almost)

This only realtes to the CA folks, but it's a good story anyway.
Went to get my smog check on Saturday (12/10/05) for the first
time with the Crane 104227 (210/224) cam. Everything was going
well, the technician was cool, and the car passed all the visual
tests. Next was the 15 and 25 mph dyno tests. The technician
could see that the car was taking too long to get through the 15
mph dyno test so he stopped the test, ran the engine for 2 min
at 1500 rpm and 1 min at 2500 to heat up the catalytics. He then
redid the dyno test and the car passed both 15/25 mph portions.
Here are the #'s:

15 MPH
1318(RPM) 14.4(%CO2) 0.1(%O2) 49,9,48(HC PPM MAX,AVE,MEAS)
0.47,0.02,0.09(CO% MAX,AVE,MEAS) 409,57,55 (NO PPM MAX,AVE,MEAS)

25 MPH
1612(RPM) 14.4(%CO2) 0.0(%O2) 33,7,29(HC PPM MAX,AVE,MEAS)
0.44,0.03,0.13(CO% MAX,AVE,MEAS) 696,50,16 (NO PPM MAX,AVE,MEAS)

It barely passed the 15 mph test on HC (49/48), but it passed.
I thought I was home free only to find out that my f*@&ing gas
cap failed!!!! At this point I should have just gone home, had
a beer and stopped thinking about the car.

That was not possible in my irritated state so I went to AutoZone
and bought a cheap a$$ cap and returned to the smog test facility.
The nice technician went through all the prep for the dyno, which
by this time had the cats so hot you could feel the heat through
the floorboard. I have dual cats in the stock location with heat
shields and it was still hot. Just when it's time to start the dyno
run the SES light goes on. I scan it and the codes are P0132 and
P0152 (front O2s are high). The scanner was the HPP w/scan cartridge
so my only delete option also reset all the readiness states. Bottom
line is I was f*@&ed again.

I can't believe I was so close to passing. I think the SES was a fluke
because of how hot things were since it has not reset since. I'm not
sure why they would set a high/rich code considering the smog test
numbers. Plus the exhaust smelled very clean. Hopefully the smog gods
will be more in my favor when I go back later this week.

Man, that's f'ed up. How in the hell does the gas cap read as a fail?!?! I mean, I've heard of that before but, seriously? Shouldn't you only be expected to show verification of a new gas cap without going thru that whole emmissions procedure?

Yes. I've failed due to gas cap in CA and all I had to do was get a new cap.

I have now driven the car for three days and no SES light. It seems
like the P0132 and P0152 was a fluke. Will these codes normally reset
in three days if the front O2s are bad? I check the front O2s with the
scanner and they seem to be operating normally. Why did heating up
the cats (extended high idle) cause the codes to set?
