C5 brake conversion update
C5 brake conversion update
Well I started tackling the conversion since I received the brackets from Bob Bishop.
Went out and bought a Sawzell saw and made the cuts on the upper and lower ears. I have to take my hat off to ony of you that made this cut with just a hack saw.
Removing the WBA allows for more room to make the cut. Filed downed the rough edges and painted with High temp paint. I then put blue lock tite on the threads and boleted up the brakcet. All is well.
Taking a break now to get flowers for the wife since it is Mothers day and plan on doing more later this afternoon.
Updates to follow.

Last night I and my brother spent about two more hours on the conversion and finally completed the passanger side.
I took my time as you do not want to miss anything when working on brakes since your life is at stake. I assembled the guide pins after rubbing them down with silicone lubricant, they seemed to enjoy it.......then after I had the calipar mounted to the bracket I torgued to the specs provided. I installed the rotors and calipars next and then installed the brake line to the new calipar. For room purposes I would first install the new brake line to the hardline and cap it and then install the rotor and calipars. I will tie the brake line to the calipar after installing it. The four copper washers they give you are for the Brake line where it ties into the calipar. Also, if using the C5 brake line you have to file off the two tangs before installing. I used a little "Wizard" rotory tool and it took all of 2 minutes to do. A hand file as Bob puts in his directions does work fine.
Afterwards I gave a quick bleed and called it a night after checking all my clearances. So far so good. I can say that red calipar does look sweet. I am sure it will perform even better than it looks...I hope!!
The drivers side should take me 1/4 of the time it took me on the passangers side.
Another tip I can throw out is to remain organized during the install. Get some old butter plastic bowels and label them with each set of bolts....and parts such as your silicon, locktite..etc...
It can get disorganized in a hurry with all that you are trying to do and the last thing you want to do is get fustrated because a part is missing. Take a break often and keep your work area organized. This may sound **** to some but it is how I work best.
I think it will be next weekend before I can get the other side done. The car remains in the garage until that time.
I will try and post some pics from doing the Drivers side.

Hope all goes well Raider Z28. I'm also planning on this since my brakes will need replacing within a years time.
Well guys I finished the conversion this past weekend and I can say the car does stop much much better. I really like the look of the red calipars as well.
The drivers side only took me about three hours compared the the 5 hours on the passanger. It took so long only because it was my first go at it and like all things the first time usually takes a little longer. ( Well, except when I lost my virginity)
I took some pictures to document the install and hope to post soon. This is a nice bang for the buck.
I am thinking of adding long tube headers next. Is there a clearance problem since I lowered the car with the Eibach Pro-Kits? Was thinking of adding a Hooker Cat back system as well and a 35mm bar. It never stops....

Glad to hear it went well...can't wait to do my C5 brake conversion.
As for the lowering kit and LTs, its going to scrape on large bumps but you can get away with doing it. Theres a lot of people that do have LTs and lower their cars. Just be careful driving and it should be fine.
