A/C compressor removal?
A/C compressor removal?
i just bought a 97 trans am a4,153,300 miles. i bought the car for 2500 bucks.it starts up first try, idles really good no misss.shifts really really good.its got t-tops and all.well the reason is it wass so cheap cause the a/c compressor is making a noise i wonder is there a belt or something to bypass the a/c compressor ? what i really like to do is remove it.i bet gives up easy access to the engine.well is set a code?
Since you want to remove it altogether you can get the 1LE delete pulley from a dealer or your local auto parts store. The latter is the subject of debate on whether or not it is durable or not. If you do a search you should be able to find quite a bit of info on this subject.
I would get the GM from your local dealer. Here is what it looks like along with the part number on it.

Not a GM pulley, but this is how it installs. I don't have a good photo of my GM installed.

So when i put the pully on there do i need to re-route the plug wires?another thing whats the down fall from me deleteing the a/c i seen something about the defrost.well this give me any extra hp.
Shouldn't have to reroute the wires. If they're stock, they run under the power steering hard line behind the pulleys. Your defroster uses heat, so as long as you have your heater core it should be fine. As for power, the A/C compressor has a clutch so you're not really turning much with the A/C off. It might free up a couple, but nothing you would be able to feel. The real savings is in weight reduction and extra space in the engine bay.
ok im ok wit that.hmm does the pully come wit bolts or do i re-use my bolts from the compressor?the stock belt should work? take the lines out or leave them in there or should i take out all the a/c stuff? well it get me better room for the wires maqn i hate takeing all day to run some wire lol.

Take out as much, or as little as your want. You can save a few pounds with everything out. Also, with the condenser core removed you'll have better air flow for cooling. If you remove it you'll need to build some spacers to maintain the air folw without leaks.
