Buying XE224/230 Soon, Advice Please
OK, I am looking to purchase an XE 224/230 cam soon from another forum member. My current mods and power figures are in my sig.
The package of used parts I am getting is:
XE 224/230 Cam
Comp Cams Pro Mag 1.6 N-SA Rockers
Guideplates
Studs
Hardened Pushrods
I plan to buy EX Components 612 springs and associated retainers and locks.
Questions I have:
1. Will these springs be enough for that cam?
2. Will I be OK using a stock timing chain replacement?
3. Will I be OK using stock lifters? (Keeping in mind I have a very new crate motor)
4. I am looking at buying 30# SVOs. Is this a smart move?
5. Will this combo work ok/good/great on stock heads?
6. Is there a better valvespring tool than the KD tool? Last time I used that tool it kept bending out of shape on me.
Thanks in advance.

Those springs will work great. I am using them on my 233/239.
I am using a stock replacement timing chain on this same motor, however I would HIGHLY recommend getting new crank and cam sprockets. I beleive cloyes makes an oversize sprocket which will reduce the slack in the stock chain. Might want to look into that.
I am running stock 24# injectors with my 233/239. Unless you have extra cash, I would stick with the stockers.
The combo will work great with stock heads.
I used a different compressor but it was very similar to the KD one. Just make sure you hold it together when you're working on the spring and you should be fine.
Your stock lifters will work.

How much would it cost me to get a retune mailed to me from you? I have your OBD1 conversion and stuff and I have the cable and laptop to use with it now. I also have TunerCats, if that makes any diff.

It must've been early December because you were running a special and you were leaving imminently for vacation.
I was pretty sure it was long expired anyway. $20 is an awesome deal anyway, can't argue with that. By the way your tune is still running great, I'm real happy with it. Made great power for my mods on the dyno... all I had to tweak was take out a little fuel since it was around 12:1.

no need for 30lbs without head work... Cam has got some nice go to it.. STock LT1 timing chains are pretty stout, get the whole set from Jason Cromer Or Dal for the best price.
Get it tuned again, and afterward check to see if your sensor is picking up false knock cuz of the rockers.. U can pick up an LT4 module to see if it helps eliminate it if its the case.
You have a good set up. Oh and Discount auto has a good low price timing cover gasket set you'll need

I did the same ...been running great and really improved the performance. I used stock lifters ( 80,XXX miles ) replaced chain only, went from 22# to 24# injectors (since I have a 93 ) and I have stock heads and throttlebody. I went to autozone and they had a tool similar to the KD tool but it had a longer reach and worked great ( plus it was only five bucks to use). I ran a 12.78 @ 107 last week with the combo...good luck and have fun!

Fortunately I already have the LT4 KM and knock desensitization tuning on my PCM. What kind of power do you guys think I might make on a dyno with my mods?
A guy with my identical mods in my car club put down like 339rwhp SAE but he was an Auto. Of course, he also had an electric water pump, which I don't.
