Buying MAC Headers! Anything I should know?

This week I am buying a set of Jet-Hot MAC Headers. I was originally going to get LT's but since all the emmissions stuff came up in PA I'm forced with having to hook up my EGR and all that fun stuff. Is this going to be worth it?

I've got some Macs on the way too. I'm sure neither of us will be disappointed. Long tubes arent for everyone. Some of us need emmisions or grould clearance and long tubes wont cut it. Macs and some other shorty/mid length headers have been proven performers and will defeinately make a decent power increases over stock.

From what I have heard, you will be pleased, especially since you got them coated.

If you get them to fit and not leak then you will love them. Personally I am planning on getting rid of my MACs and getting some LTs b/c I have had so much trouble with the MACs.

When I had my MACs I had no problems with them. The plug clearance was awesome with these headers. I would recommend buying stock OEM headers gaskets and Stage 8 header bolts.

I love my mac's. I wish I would've got them coated becasue they are starting to rust, but this is also after 2 years. From what I understand they are some of the easiest to install...myself i would've gone with longtubes, but since my car is lowered that is not an option. All in all a great header in my oppinion.

Yeah good gaskets are a must. I used gm stock replacements and havn't had any leaks yet. Also the clamp provided do connect the #1 primary is not very good. So i went with a u exaust clamp instead.

I bought MAC headers also, but theyre not coated. They should be arriving soon! (I hope) And I live in PA as well so I couldnt get LTs and also because theres just too many speedbumps around here...

There are a few sites for installing MAC headers, but this seems to be a good one:

Cool

you won't be disappointed with them! I bought a set of mac headers from Jet-Hot and when I got them, all I can say was wow. It has been already 3 months and they still look good under the hood. They are worth the price at Jet-hot. And for header bolts I used ARP bolts. They are awesome. I didn't have to re-tighten them when I let the car go thru a heat cycle for the headers. So I would recommend getting the ARP bolts. Plus they are easy to put in. But it is all up to you. Stage 8 bolts are cool as well. But I wouldn't trade my ARP header bolts for anything. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me. Good luck.

Just some things to keep in mind.

You will need either a ORP or Highflow cat to place between the header Y-pipe and the catback.

You might need an O2 wire extension. I'm not sure on this. (I need to check on it for my MAC install also.)

Here is a good sight that tells how to torque the bolts and install the header gaskets.

Mine have some extra weld material sticking inside a few ports that might restrict flow slightly. Be prepared to grind the extra weld off. I called Jet-Hot about it, and they said it won't hurt the coating around the area where you grind.

They look great and I can't wait to install mine.

Im assuming by that you mean the stock one wont work. Any reason for that? When I do mine I want it to be as emissions legal as possible, and I think that requires a stock cat but im not sure.

The stock one is welded to the Y-pipe. When you take your y-pipe off, the cat comes with it.

The Mac's come with a starter pipe after the y-pipe. You can weld one side of a new cat to the starter pipe, and then you still need to get the other side welded up with the correct flange. I bought a Carsound 3" in and out cat from Ebay. One side of the new cat will then bolt to the Y-pipe, and the other end will bolt to the catback system. This makes things really nice because then you can swap in a ORP if you want.

I really like the headers, although I had some problems with the gaskets leaking, My felpros probably would have done the job if I hadnt lost one of the clips on the stage 8's. The stage 8's are very short, I'm not sure if the ARP header bolts are as short as these but they were somewhat hard to start the threading on a few of them.

Alot of people seem to have been having good luck with the GM stock replacement gasket too.

I didnt need o2 extensions, BTW.
