Busted a hose
Busted a hose
Me and one of my buddies changed out the plugs and wires on my car last week. It took a few hours and a few trips to Advance, but when we finished the car ran better than it ever has since I owned it. But, as usual, when you fix something another thing breaks. We changed all the plugs just by putting the car on ramps and using a lot of extensions and a swivel. Anyway, we somehow busted the hose that's right beside the oil filler neck. It's hard plastic and Advance doesn't carry it. I've busted old hoses before and just bought a long rubber hose and replaced them and they worked fine. This one isn't cooperating. I had to buy a rubber hose cause they didn't have a replacement one and it's already cracked and never fit as well as it should. Now the car is sputtering all the time. Can I order this from the dealer or am I SOL?
Sorry for the absence of pics to show where it's at. I just got home from a 12 hour shift and I'm having a hard time finding it on shoebox's site right now.

Re: Busted a hose
I've looked on google pics for lt1 engine and I can't find a pic that shows it clearly enough to point it out. The host was a hard plastic hose that was about 4 inches long, in an L shape, and behind the alernator from the front view. It's not the long one that goes from the side of the intake back. I'm not sure how to describe it any better than this.
Re: Busted a hose
The only hard plastic vacuum hoses next to the oil fill tube are the lines shown in the picture, the vacuum line for the EVAP purge solenoid, and the line that EVAP line that wraps around the front of the intake, under the TB.
Most auto parts stores carry the hard plastic line in a roll, in various sizes. You cut off the length you need, and reuse the old "ends", or buy new, matching ends from the selection on the small parts rack.

Re: Busted a hose
Ok, they told me that's it's hard plastic line at the parts store. It's definitely not rubber originally. The hose is a lot bigger than the ones in the picture. I've looked on Shoebox's site and I can't find a picture with this hose in it. The hose is a lot bigger in diameter than those listed. It is right behind the alternator, it forms an L shape, and is only about 4 inches long. I wish I could find a picture of it. If someone could post a picture of the passenger side of the engine from the top I could point it out.
Re: Busted a hose
Could you possibly mean the molded rubber fitting for the AIR check valve plumbing?

Re: Busted a hose
Ok, now that we have decided on what it is, where can I get a replacement? One of my buddies said to just get a metal hose the same size, could that work?
Re: Busted a hose
If its that hot, it sounds like the AIR check valve has gone bad. Should replace both of them and the hoses. Another option is to remove the AIR pump if you don't have visual inspections where you live. If you chose to replace them these guys sell GM parts cheap.
