Bulb Replacement
Bulb Replacement
Alright, the light on the right controls on my steering wheel (volume, mute/play) have gone out. Also the lights on the power window buttons on both doors are out, but I can see light thru a crack on the drivers door. Can someone tell me how to replace these bulbs, and which bulbs I need to use?
Not sure on how to change the bulbs in the steering wheel but to change the bulbs in the door you have to remove the switch panel and a few screws to get the piece that holds the switches. simply turn the bulb socket and it will come out of the piece. then pull the bulb straight out of the socket. It might be stuck in there pretty good. Pop a new one in and button it all up. Also you said that you can see light comming though your door area buy the switches. Your Bulb socket came out of the piece. Hope this helps have fun

The lights in the radio are not a sealed unit and not that difficult to replace. You'll spend more time looking to purchase the bulbs then the actual repair. You have to remove the radio and take off the front face and maybe a cover or 2 to get to the bulbs. I did it last month but forgot exactly how I did it
He's talking about the steering wheel controls.
"Alright, the light on the right controls on my steering wheel (volume, mute/play) have gone out."
I'm pretty sure they are a sealed / replacable unit.

The steering wheel controls are not exactly a sealed unit, but I would imagine it would be difficult to solder new bulbs in. I've got pictures I can e-mail if needed. I am not certain if the steering wheel controls changed in design over the years, so use the following at your own risk. The exact process may vary.
From what I remember:
1) Disconnect the battery. (very important -- dealing with AirBags)
2) If you feel the back of your steering wheel, you'll find four recessed torx screws. Remove them.
3) With the screws removed, the entire airbag and steering wheel control assemblies should pull away from the rest of the steering column. You'll have to reach behind there and disconnect a few electrical connections before it can be pulled completely.
4) From there on out, it should be fairly straight-forward. Two small bolts hold in either side of the steering wheel controls to the airbag assembly. Once the controls are removed, you can unscrew the button assemblies themselves, and voila -- you'll see the bulbs and the little rubber plungers that press the red buttons down. Be careful not to lose those little plungers (should be 8 in total).
5) That just gets you to the bulb. To replace the blown bulb, you're on your own. I've never done that. Good luck.
While you're in there, I would recommend taking one of those small red straws from a spray-can, and cut it into pieces roughly the same size as those little plungers (test them out once cut -- cant be too long or too short). I replaced all of mine with the sections of straw, and now it is VERY easy to get the buttons to work. It's like having a hair-trigger on the radio controls. Prior to this, I would have to mash the buttons in to get the stubborn radio to cooperate. Though, I can't take credit for the idea -- saw a guide somewhere online.
Hope this helps. If you'd like the photos, shoot me an e-mail, but it should be relatively easy to figure out on your own.

Eh, what the hell. Here's a photo: http://publish.hometown.aol.com/alex...s/dsc00009.jpg
4 buttons and 3 bulbs on either side. Screws should be 5mm.
