i am rebuilding mine due to worthless POS rats eatting them this winter, and well i cant remember the trick to getting the boot over the wire its a really tight fit.

Use some vasoline or something. Otherwise it takes patience and some strong hands.

Just did it this past weekend....I used Dialectric Grease....worked so good, I am now trying to get some of it out of the boot, because it slides up and down the wires too easy...

 

hmmm assuming i can run up to autozone and grab some? i remember hearing something about that now.

i made one like 10 years ago for a boat motor and they told me to use rubbing alcohol, i think it worked. but that just really weird.

 

I've heard of people throwing the boots in hot water.

 

hmm not a bad idea, losen them up some.

 

use silicone lube (its in a spray can, kinda like wd40), it will slide on like a ****, then the lube evaporates kinda quick, used it on mine last yr and it worked great

 

Yeah I used WD40 but you have to be quick with it before it dries.

 

i ended tossing them in boiling water for a lil bit, then used dish soap and that seemed to work really well, but it does dry fast.

 

I boiled mine.
