build 383 or 383 crate motor?

Hi all.

My bolton lt1 with nitrous is on its last leg. It has a bad connecting rod that needs to be replaced.

I want to replace the internals with forged parts, especially since I'm running nitrous and I have to guess that contributed to the failure. I was looking online and it looks like I'm going to spend upwards of 3-5k for a budget 383 stroker build.

I am thinking, is there an advantage to pay a little more and get a brand new balanced and blueprinted 383 crate motor?? I wanted to look at them but don't know where to look. SLP has discontinued all there lt1 motor packages(they are down the street from me). Is there any websites or info that I can look at for
1) 383+ crate motors
2) 383 parts and labor information

I have alot of boltons that fit an Lt1 such as electric waterpump and so forth, I would like the new motor to be a stroked out lt1 block or use the same bolton configuration such as headers etc so that I can reuse all my boltons. I don't want to buy a motor that I can swap in and need to replace motor mounts, headers, etc etc to get it to work. I am looking drop in and drive.

THanks
Brian

Don't buy from combination! My friend bought a motor from them, and it was crap! Supposed to be new parts, etc. It came to him dirty and looked used! Just my two cents. There are a few places I've seen, I am going the build route personally. Buy I think Golen has them, Allen Motorsports,http://www.speeddemonmotorsports.com...engineLT1.html, http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=383...b-t&fl=0&x=wrt. I just looked that up on yahoo. Can't vouch for their work but just a peek of your options.

Dont listen to this guy cmotorsports is one of the best places you can get a motor from... If your friend indeed got somehting that looked used call there and talk to Dave.. Compbination as the best customer support out of any place ive ever dealt with... Tham and Speed inc are two of the best sponsors of boards you can deal with.. Idf cmotorsports motors are bad then why does parish's truck put dow 1020 hp on pump gas.. Let alone all the others that have ordered ls1s and lt1s from them.. Call there and talk to Dave or Terry I believe his name is...

Also, I saw some budget 383s on www.victoryracingengines.com and also www.ls1speed.com is a good place. I live right by ls1speed, it is a good shop and they have been getting alot of magazine coverage lately with both their mail-order engines and also some of their LS1 buildups(Front cover of this months issue of GM High Tech Performance).

So a friend of yours received a motor with used parts from us and it was dirty, what was his name?

I will look it up to see if he bought a new shortblock or one of our special "used" setups.
Which, btw, is something we have never done.

Also, you'll try and bash someone with no hesitation, but when you refer him to someone to build his motor you refer him to a yahoo search?

Here's another one of our dirty and used parts motors running on the dyno:

Re: build 383 or 383 crate motor?

Hello I'm new to this forum stuff but I had to reply, I just received my January 2020 copy of "Chevy Performance" and the have an article in it about "Building a 383 the Right Way" and it is very informative and you might want to pick it up as it tells about the math involved in building a 383 and the cam selection referring to the duration and the characteristics of the 383 and why it does this and why it needs that.

I've got a Dart block and head set up with an 871 blower on it and it and had the same on a 350 and what a difference the couple extra cubes made and after reading that article I understood more about why it is.
