Buick station wagon LT1??

B Body or Buick LT1 compared to F Body LT1???

1) both 350 cubes??
2) iron heads on B Body I already know,, but which ones flow better stock the Iron or Aluminium??
3) should be a simple swap in with no modifications??

Did the LT1 come in the Buick station wagons?? If so would the transmission be the same as what is in an F Body?? (Auto)

Reason is I see a station wagon parked for a couple of years and if it has an LT1 it might be easy to get it cheap and I could strip the car down for parts and scrap the body.

Actually car is in nice shape maybe make it a family hot rod
(me) (wife) (my three boys who like my Z28)

The roadmasters got LT1's. THe iron head flow better but weigh more. Smaller cam in the roadmaster lt1.

Same 4L60E trans. Pasky nailed it, except I think the b bodies got 1/2 to 3/4 point lower compression too.

But be careful if you're junkyarding. Because lots of B bodies got a 4.3 V8 with LT1 architecture. I've heard that all 5.7 LT1s had dual exhaust with dual cats, while the 4.3 LT1 had single exhaust with a single cat. Good luck!

Easiest way to tell if its not the baby lt1 (4.3) is on the back of the block the displacement is stamped. It will say 5.7 or 4.3. Believe its stamped above the bellhousing close to the oil pressure sending unit.

An article worth reading:

With the iron heads, you probably aren't going to be able to run as much ignition advance.

The 4.3L was only available in the Caprice sedan there have been rumors of special orders in Caprice wagons but the LT1 was standard there and in the Buicks. Maybe it will make everyone feel better if I say the wagon LT1 is the same as the Impala SS LT1, that give it a better pedigree anbd give you a warm fuzzy?
The L99 4.3L V8 came with DUAL cats and single exhaust and yes it looks just like an LT1. Besides the 4300 behind the drivers side head the other place to look would be the drivers side of the block you know how the LT1 says 327 well the L99 says 588. You guys can trust my L99 info I yanked one out of my sedan and dropped in an LT1 direct swap wiring plugs in and all it even got the same cam as the b-body LT1.

The wagon does have a 4L60E but the tailshaft housing is different than an f-body. I have a Caprice sedan and a Roadmaster wagon. I love both but the wagon is tubby base curb weight of 4572lbs. or there abouts but with all the extras on the RMW I am sure she is over 4600 without me or any extra crap. Things like power recline and heated leather, load leveler, fullsize alloy spare all add up in weight. So the Caprice is my fun car and the wagon is my daily driver hauler that will get mostly handmydown parts from the other car. Stock it should be a high 15second car resonding decently to boltons, traction is amazing.
