Buddies car pulled 10 codes tonight, need someone to help clarify them!
It pulled:
MAF VAT code
4 O2 codes, inop and heating malfunction
Right bank lean
Left bank lean
EGR malfunction
and Random Multiple Misfire
He's had a SES for a while, but now the motor will stay rev'ed up when he puts the clutch in, and will actually continue to rise a lil. When he hits the gas and lets off with it in nuetral it will help bring the RPM's down.
We tried putting my T/B on it just incase it was TPS or IAC before we had it scanned, but it didnt help.
Let me know what you guys think!
PS, his car is a 96 T/A ODBII
MAF VAT code

Left bank lean

Assuming he hasn't been doing anything to the car lately and it worked fine not too long ago. More than likely the alternator is bad. Get a digital volt meter and set it to AC. While the engine is running, put one probe on the negative battery terminal and the other on the output post of the alternator. It should not be over 0.03 VAC. If it is, the diodes in the alternator are bad and allowing AC voltage on to the DC line. This drives the PCM wacky and at that point, the PCM could do anything.
Also check the DC condition of the battery with the engine running. The DC voltage across the battery should be close to 14 volts. If the battery where the problem however, it would have to be less than 11 volts and at that point it would crank the engine over very slowly if at all.
Good luck
Dave

Assuming you have no alternator problems. I would start by replacing your O2 sensors. You might also have a problem with the Mass Air flow sensor. Try replacing the O2 sensors and swap the MAF from your car.
