brother got an m6 z-28, need some advice
By "Dealer" I assume you are talking about a "used car dealer". At any rate that's pretty cheap, in my opinion.
I'd guess that it either has been wrecked, the engine is seriously shot, it has a million miles on it, it is stolen, someone was killed in it, etc.
Even a "purple" 96 Z28 in so-so condition should bring more than that.
But, hey. He just might have gotten a real sweet deal. And if he did, he might be able to make a couple grand on resale and buy a yellow one instead.

there isnt always an explanation , last year I bought a green Z28 Loaded w/66k on it for 2000 , clean title , runs strong as hell A really dumkb friend of mine who blew 50,000 dollars of inherintance in 1 year was left with a bunch of huge bills and was getting evicted . He said he would take 4 , I said ill give ya 2 tomarrow . He said no , the nexyt day , he said yes , he was in a bind . Although he still had his 2001 eclipse . I already had a Z , so I sold it to one of my best friends for 2000 dollars , in return , he put the clutch in my car , helped me put the eaton and gears in it , water pump also "he's a professional mechanic "....They are out there . Just hard to find

When first looking for an f-body i came across 2 others before I found my z28. A 93 z28 with 96k red with ss hood and ground fx off of a 1996-97 rs but had been broken into and completey trashed on the inside and he wanted 5300 for it. I also found a 95 z28 with 56k bone stock except for zr-1 wheels for 6500. Went to go look at it and when i got there the car was sitting on blocks with no rims. The found my car for 5300 that had flawless interior had eibach sportlines and 2k2 ss wheels and exterior that had only a couple tiny dents in the rear quarters.
I feel jealous for my brother too. The reason his car was overheating was a not working fan. I bought three new fuses and his fans were still not working
So I just manually routed 12 V and bought a switch for him. Now there is no heating problem. Anybody knows what could cause his fans not to be working?

Wow sounds like an awesome deal!
I would definately check the GM sticker on the door, too. As said earlier, if the letters B4C are found in the mix of codes you could be sitting on the sleeper of all sleepers, the Special Service Camaro. Quite cool, I think.
By the way, I got almost the same Z28. 1996, M6, dark purple, hardtop, 79k, no documents or service records, Bose, leather, factory chrome salad shooters, and came with a fairly decent no-name cat back. It was in overall great shape at one of those supposed shady looking family dealerships on Cicero in Chicago. Sat on the car for a month, went back, and got it for $6200 total out the door. So far it's gotten me a solid 8000 miles since I got it last June.
Pic for you...
There's plenty of deals out there, guys, all you need is patience and the ability to find that deal. I think those shady looking car dealerships in and around the city are gold mines if YOU know what you're looking for and not what the salesman is WANTING to put you in. Good luck with it and good luck hunting!
