I am of the belief that I may have a broken valve spring. In the absence of popping the valve covers, what are the key symptoms?

I am experiencing a definite misfire on at least one cylinder. Rough, lumpy running at all RPMs.

 

If you have stock valve springs the valve would have dropped, go into the cylinder, and most likely create some damage (you would know). If they are not stock I don't really know.
