Sorry about what hapened, That surely sucks but I think anyone who has built a few engines have put a dudd together at one time or another. I had trouble with a flat tappet cam wiping out on me couple of years ago, It's just paying dues to the engine gods..

I hate when something you put alot of time and money in like this goes bad. Especially when you can point it back to yourself.

Good luck with the new build.

I got the block back from the machine shop with a new sleeve in #7 cylinder. the rod and piston balanced to match the set. the crank and cam both checked and polished (no problems with either). and the heads rebuild, valve job with 4 new valves. I also let him install new cam bearings. Totaled just shy of $800 and took about 2 months. I just ordered a new gasket set and new main and rod bearings. ($160) The oil plugs were taken out and the block and cleaned along with the block. So were looking at about a $1000 mistake and 8 months of down time (dint work on it during winter) Oh well. Live and learn!.. Lets hope I get it right this time!!

Just make sure you mark the fasteners with a sharpie etc after you torque them down this time. Loosen and retorque the the new rod 2-3 times in the vice with lube and then stop by the machine shop and have them check it for out of round. I will assume they checked the other rods for out of round already.

Remember take your time and measure everything and pay particular attention to how the parts feel going together if it doesnt feel quite right stop and take a look. Its been apart a long time and there is no reason to get in a hurry now.

I'd wish you good luck but it has no place in engine assembly.

yea I agree about taking it slow. The first time I built the motor I was in a hurry cuz I was excited.. I had it done in 2 days. This time I am not to excited (I try not gettin to exciting anyway)., I have had all the stuff back for 3 days and didnt touch it yet. Im in no hurry im not looking forward to puttin it back in - thats always a beotch. When i do get excited I just look at my $1000 bill and kick myself for puttin more money into this car than I wanted. Oh well it will be worth it in the end.

1500miles on second build. the motor is strong, still ironing out a few problems but once I get the SLP loudmouth on there it will be ready for a good dyno tune and I will be done.

If you got 1500 on the clock, it will go the distance.
