Re: Broken fuel rail bolt

Honestly, I don't see how overtightening or crossthreading would do this. We're talking about a very hard steel bolt in soft aluminum. I'd have to see the break in the bolt but it's likely there was existing damage when you removed it. I recently stripped a couple of mine and put in helicoils. I really like the added strength of the helicoil and went ahead and put them in all four of the fual rail threads.

The hardest part about taking the intake off is waiting for the sealant to dry when you put it back on. If you haven't done it before...it's very simple.

Fuel pressure is around 40psi.

no im not discrediting what you say, im just presenting argument toward leaving it in there... in hopes someone would agree lol i dont wanna have to take it out man.... i hate having to deal with BS like that... you know? as for my injector clips... lol all of em have it but cyl 7.... because the damn thing fell behind the motor, and i have no magnet to reach it... so... eh... screw it... i know the rail comes off in 5 mins... if you have the tools to take off those god damned POS steel collared quick connect lines... and know precisely what to do... i replaced the injector without taking the rail all the way off the car... because i couldnt disconnect those lines... im just so frickin frustrated right now its not even funny... eventually ill do something about it.. but right now? i cant...

It's a $10 tool at the local parts store.

Screw the fuel disconnect tool. You dont need to disconnect the lines, leave them attached to the rail.

Re: Broken fuel rail bolt

how ami going to leave those lines on the rail... leave the rail on the car... and take the intake OUT of the car? i just think it would be more of a hassle than its worth in trying to take out those fittings........ anyone know why they tell you to take compressed air and blast out the fittings before taking em apart? and how the hell does that constitute the use of "quick" in the word "quick connect"? seems like my good old fasioned hose clamps were quicker... easier...and required less specialty tools to work with.......... some quick connection.... i need an air compressor, and a special tool to take em out....... vs a flathead screwdriver..... anyone see a problem with this?

Re: Broken fuel rail bolt

My 95Z has enough slack in the fuel line to probably hang the rail over the fender if you really wanted to. Anyway, it sounds like you made up your mind already that you are going to leave it as is. With the broken screw and now a missing injector clip, I would fix it sooner than later. I snapped one of the long screws for the opti once. What a PITA because I had to take the timing chain cover off to grab part of the screw. My case was just like yours in that I was able to thread the screw in by hand 90% of the way. Anyway, even though I had tried to force the screw in with, well enough force to break it, it came out VERY easy with some vice grips. The plastic quick disconnect tool is very cheap and easy to use. Give it a try. Worse case you waste maybe an hour.

Re: Broken fuel rail bolt

I broke a fuel rail bolt...I could not get a hold of it with a plier because it didn't show enough material above the threads...thought I had to drill it out...took the dremel to make a cut in the bolt to get a screw driver to get a hold of it...but the vibrations from the dremel made the bolt to unscrew itself from the threads long enough to get ahold of it...
Just a tip.

Why dont you just do the LS1 intake swap on your LT1....it's not that hard to do
