Broken Block and a Cam wear question *PICS*

here are some pics of the broken block. just wondering if anyone thinks that this is weldable. i thought if welded on both sides that it would hold up just as well as if it had never been broken.

Ok now onto the cam question. I spun a rod bearing and this cam looks a lil worn would you guys please look at the pics and let me know what you think?
The first pic is of the rod bearing. Oh and some of the lines look bad but NONE of them catch your fingernail.

Thanks guys

You need to preheat it and weld it with a rod that has a lot of nickel in it - I forget the details because i havent done that in a long time. better get it right - doesn't the starter go on there? And what happened to it? Did it get dropped?

hmm

im not stuck with it or anything he is sending a new one, but im gonna use this one either to fix or use the gm parts out of it. but yes the starter does go there. ive heard people say that welding can be as good as new if it is done right. but ill prolly just end up using the parts. any comments on whether the cam is useable or not?

Yes the block can be welded. I had a set of cast heads that we cut for larger springs, and cut though into the water jacket. Had a Certified Welder weld up the holes and we recut the spring pads. I used them for years with NO problems. Still going strong when I sold the car.
As for the Cam., it looks usable to me.

Also

There's a bolt that goes through that piece intithe transmission. I think the transmission will help support it. That's not a very strong point anyway

The block is fixable, and as for the cam, get some emory cloth and polish the journals and you should be good to go....
