Plug picture

There's a pic for you guys if it helps

He's going to help me try to get it out tommorow morning and if it's too hard I'm going to call the tow truck. By the way it's the rearmost driver's side plug, so there's no headroom to see what we're doing

I have never seen that before. I have seen them break on the other end of the hex. How did that happen?

Re: Broke a spark plug in half....

If you start it, it should blow the porlclin out because the porlclin is attached to the threads at that nut which is broken off.

yeah, then a easy-out should hopefully work.......might need a little heat though

Re: Broke a spark plug in half....

Try superglueing something to the porcelain to pull it out. Maybe tap it lightly to loosen it up first but try not to shatter it. Then use an ezout. That's what I would do but you risk breaking the porcelain into the cylinder.

Re: Broke a spark plug in half....

Wow, never seen one like that. Doesn't it seat against the hex part? I would think the threaded section would be somewhat loose, or spinnable by hand? Kinda like a bolt in the hole, if the head is gone then there's nothing to tighten it against and hold it there? Bummer man, good luck regardless!

Re: Broke a spark plug in half....

Did you do this putting the plug in or removing it?

If it was removing it then the plugs were probably installed with out any anti-seize, and the threads are probably "frozen" which is why it broke off. Just a guess.

Re: Broke a spark plug in half....

You guys are both right, the plug was frozen and there shouldnt be any way of removing it without removing the head. We're going to try to fix it tommorow

Might be a good time to install new head gaskets

omg... i just realized why acdelcos are so good. i broke a plug when i was just trying to check the gap on the ones i had on there... broke the porcelin right off... but they have a metal shell around the porcilen that would be inside the head...

wait... their all like that... how did it break if it has metal connecting it to threads...

the threads are rusted/siezed in stronger then the thin metal you are talking about

Re: Broke a spark plug in half....

I have had this same thing happen twice. Both times I got it out w/ an easy out...I even broke an easy out in one as well tho. Take your taime an you should be able to get it out with an easy out. Remember heat is your friend when it comes to an aluminum head and a steel spark plug. It shouldn't be that hard tho.
