Breslin Header bolts?

Im going to be installing a set of AS&M headers soon, just wondering if anyone has had any feedback about these Breslin bolts?

Re: Breslin Header bolts?

I use them on my slp shorties but they're tough to get at cause some of the primaries are too damn close to the bolt holes. If I could go back I would've gotten some ARP's instead and save some money. I'm not sure if they've backed out yet as I haven't checked and my car is making all sorts of noises under the hood right now.

yeah i was afraid that the primaries would cut the clearance a bit.. thats true for most 12 point. guess i am going with ARP.. lol...

I use the Breslins and they are by far better than any other header bolt I have used.

Re: Breslin Header bolts?

i havent tried the ARP but i think the actual head of the bolt on the ARP is larger than the breslin, which means the breslin might have better clearance.

i had stage8's those sucked. the allen-key part stripped easily and the bolts were large with bad clearance.

i switched to the breslins, and they have better clearance and dont strip, however, i did manage to overtighten one and snnap it in half leaving the threads inside! theyre nice bolts, just to tighten too hard.

The circular base on the breslins is quite wide, and this makes it difficult to bolt on. I have no experience with arps, but one thing i can say about the breslins is once they go on, they never come off until you take them off yourself.

The idea of a tiny screw in the middle of the bolt that you tighten up scares me. Let that thing sit in there a year or two after a ton of head cyclkes and dirt and shmootz builds up in there. Have fun getting those out!

That's the other problem I couldn't tell how tight I had those little set screws torqued. I just tightened them as hard as I could but a few times it would just feel like they were about to break.

I'm running the Breslins with my SLP's 1-3/4's and AFR heads...the ARP's kept backing out. So far, so good with the Breslin's, very cool design and they work great! I had no access issues whatsoever.

Re: Breslin Header bolts?

Im happy with stage8's desing. I know i wont have a long tube stuck to a cylinder head that needs the center drilled out one day. What happens if you round out that lil screw, or the head snaps off the lil set screw, or the threads go to hell and it wont back out, or... you get the idea. I dunno how youd get a head off with a long tube stuck screwed to it. Not alotta room to work in the engine bay as you know. Im just gonna go ahead and leave the breslins to someone with a huge engine bay that can get to the bolts easier. Let them prove their worth. In a few years if i dont hear of problems MAYBE ill try em.

Re: Breslin Header bolts?

breslins dont have a screw, its an alan key to lock them. There is no way that hole will get "filled up". Even if you drive underwater, the bolts are stainless steel and will not rust. 96 inch pounds = 8 lb feet of torque to lock them, its not a whole lot. Locking and unlocking the bolts is by far the easiest part of the install. I found it hard to get a 12point wrench on them for the #7 as it so close to the primary that it didnt want to fit between the primary and the bolt itself! I had to force the bolt away from the primary while screwing it in, and that was after filing down the outside of my donut hole 12-pt wrench so make it thinner.
