break in "new" motor a second time?
Agreed, but this is how I broke in my engine and it runs great:http://mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
I sent the oil to a test lab for analysis after 1200 miles (http://www.blackstone-labs.com/index.html) and it came back with normal results.
So, you can put me in the fast break in side of the discussion.

v-tec?
Out of curiosity what is the general time limit on breaking in a motor. What I mean is I hear of some never seating the rings and screwing up things. Also I am sure you have to idle for a while while checking for leaks adjusting things ETC. Just thought I would throw this out there. I have always agreed with the mototuneusa page.
The old 1500-2000rpms to break in FLAT TAPPETS is contrary to what it takes to really seat rings well. People would do well to try and understand things occassionally. The 1500-2000rpms thing was specifically for breaking in flat tappets.
Given the number of us that reuse original lifters at cam swap time I have to say that there is no wear pattern to worry about with roller lifters, sure there will technically be a "wear pattern" but not anything we need to be concerned with.
