Brazing Oil Pump Pickup

Is there any reason other than security to braze the oil pan pickup to the pump. I just got a Moroso pickup to go with my Moroso pump and the instructions recommend brazing the pickup to the pump, but heck I had to press fit the tube into the inlet using my hydraulic press, and the pickup bolts to the pump with two supplied allen head screws. In other words I don't see it going anywhere very easily.

Re: Brazing Oil Pump Pickup

If it is a push in only then brazing is a good idea. If it is the type with a tab to mount to a oil pump bolt nothing is needed.

I just welded mine. I've had two of the push in type fall off in the past but not anymore.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm going to use locktite, I really didn't see a need to braze it.

Just throw a pair of spot welds on it.

I used to spot weld but now I drill and tap the bottom of the oil pump for an allen key.

Does the allen screw just press into the pickup or does it go all the way through the tube? Seems like alot of work but I guess you won't ruin the pickup if you need to get it apart again.

Re: Brazing Oil Pump Pickup

Maybe I'm missing something here. The pickup that I'm asking about is one assembly, a tube welded to a pickup with a screen and a welded on bracket that has two holes through which run two allen bolt screws, with lock nuts, that screw into the oil pump housing. These are the same allen bolts that hold the pump housing together, except that the pickup comes supplies with two slightly longer allen bolts for this purpose. I just don't see the need to braze or weld the pickup to the pump housing at all. It isn't coming off unless the two allen bolts backed out. Using that logic, I'd need to weld the other two allen bolts in the pump housing, (it has a total of four), because they could theoretically back out as well. Like a say the pickup isn't going to be able to go anywhere as is.
