Check out this link, it's full of info on types and price. It may help or may just cause you to give up trying to decide. For me I'm going for ASM Mid-lengths because for me they represent the best combination of:

Performance
Quality
Price
Emissions

& Always great feedback from owners

I had edelbrock shorties for awhile. Okay plug access and no leaks. They were easy to install and remove. Switched to flp longtubes. The flp's have a much deeper tone to them, as well as much more power and even though they are not technically smog legal, they easily passed the sniffer test out here in Cali (engine ran cleaner than it ever has). This is probably due to the extra cat converter over a shorty type header. Of course, the hookers would basically perform the same with 2 cats also. The edelbrocks performed well at lower rpm, but after 3500 rpm, the flps take over, raising the horsepower and torque curves.

I have the SLP shorties and they're not bad. I got em used, so that helps. But their one advantage is 1 3/4 primaries and made of SS. Otherwise plug access isnt great (It's hard to make a set of headers for our cars with good plug access) but if you get any headers used for cheap, usually it's a much better deal. Headers can be used and still more then good enough vs some things you shouldnt buy used.
