brakes bad after 6 month hibernation ...?

I just got it running today and everything is fine now except for the breaks are terrible. They squeel and don't stop the car very well and for some reason the brake light on the dash is on. The brakes were working fine before I put the car down. What is going on ? How do I check the rotors and pads ?

I store my truck during the summer and my car during the winter. I drove my truck around the other day and had the same problem, what it is is the rotors get rusted and you need to clean the rust off for a smooth braking surface.

It's real easy to do in a camaro just press the gas and the brake pedal at the same time while going down the road, be ready for a "strange" smell, but it will clean the rust off really quick.

if the light is on it is not just rust. you may be low on fluid. I stored one of my cars for 2 years with no brake problems when I took it out.

Yeah, I vote for fluid or a vacuum leak. Maybe a bad master cylinder.
