brake light on instrument panel

I just got home after being away on business for a couple weeks, got in my car and the brake light is on the instrument panel. The ABS is not on there, just the brake light. It drives normal, just wondering what would cause it. By the way, it is a 96 Z24, a4. Thanks

It could be that the e-brake switch is faulty. With the e-brake handle up you can see it through the slot for the handle and operate it with a screwdriver. Also there are other devices that cause that light to stay on. One is a switch on the brake system. Check your fluid level.

got it! Brake fluid was a little low, filled it up and pumped the brakes before I started it. Thanks
