Bought these headers/y-pipe ... do i get to keep my cats?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

bought those with the matching y-pipe. i know that i'll have to get the rear o2's programmed out and i'll have to buy 2 24'' o2 extensions. thing i'm worried about, will i have to delet my cats? i really cant because of emissions.... anyone?

The factory cat's on your car are built into your Y pipe. The setup you purchased on e-bay is going to replace your manifolds and your Y pipe, so yes, you will be deleting the cats. What you can do is add an aftermarket cat behind the Y pipe you will be getting .... but I would check your local emmission laws first and make sure you will pass going from 2 cats to 1.

dont you only need one O2 extention?

But do as said and check your laws on emisions, you might be ok with one, but might need two, or you might not need any.

well, for one thing the car would be super loud and thats a no go where i live. i could get around the emissions testing, but the loudness would get me in the hot seat....

well thats a relief. i just figured the cats where somewhat of a resonator type deal. figured they muffled the sound at least a little bit? i gutted the cat on my old 93 and it got somewhat louder. guess i'll try not having any cats and see what happens. if its too much for me, i'll just get myself an aftermarket one and stick it behind the y-pipe. thanks for all the info.

a cat will (can) "clean" the sound a bit, but a resonartor or bullet muffler can do that too.

I assume that the rest of your exhaust is stock, if this is the case then get a cut out behind your y pipe and then run your stock muffler, then when you want it loud, thats what it will be for sure, and when you want it quiet it will be pretty good.

this will save you money too.

you may want to rethink that statement. CATs quite a car down substantially, reduces exhaust pop and of course is required by law for most people....

Cats will quiet down your exhaust quite a bit. After I put one on my car after my header install it sounded a lot tamer, and no humming at cruise. This is with the stock I pipe and a magnaflow muffler.
