Borla with LT's worst combination ever

Just letting people know who are in the market for exhaust system- don't ever buy borla exhaust if you are planning to put long tube headers without cats, sound is just horible, regardless of how you adjust the pressure plates. Since I have an electric cutout, I tried every combination, no luck. At 2000-3000 rpm's car has back popping if I let of gas, and has horible- high piched shrieking, nothing close like a muscle car should sound.

I will try putting a cone and a bullet muffler, just to see if some claims made by some board members are true. Yes I will do both since I already have a bullet mufler from my dual exhaust and I have a welder.

You just confirmed my fears. My roomate has an LS1 with Borla, LTs and ORP and it sounds like crap. When I drive behind him it sounds like a harley is in front of me - all high pitched sound with no bottom end. I was hoping that it was just the LS1's sound though, since i am about to get Hooker LTs on my car and already have borla on it. I might have to put bullets in my ORP like you, because I have heard that fixes the problem. I even considered trading catbacks with someone, but I really dont know what catbacks really sound good with headers. I'm doing this LT install for the power, sure, but more of it will be about the sound, and I don't intend on having my Camaro sound like a motorcycle.

Well this is quite discouraging, as I was planning on removing my cats in the spring. I dont understand why the sound is so bad...I mean, what is different about Borla that makes it sound so horrible? Its just stainless steel pipes after all.

If anyone can suggest a cat-back that sounds good with long tubes(with or without cats), then Im all ears.

I have long tubes with a Borla cat-back and it sounds good, to me anyway. I did have a custom y-pipe made w/ dual cats so that may be why it doesn't sound "horrible". Why not run a cat(s)? It's not really going to hurt your performance, like most think.

I am thinking about putting a cat too, but I am pushing much more exhaust than my brother's stock z28. Also, performance 3" cats run at around $100 a piece, and I cannot put too cats since I already have hooker Y pipe for long tubes. I read that many people are hapy with cheaper hooker catback system, looking into it too

Borla does sound better on a LT1 than a LS1.
Did your '95 sound like this?

i have hooker LT's and Borla and get no popping with the cutout open or closed, unless i play with the gas to make it pop.
has a throaty sound, but not my favorite. doesnt sound horrible, but im just tired of it,so im selling it and going true duals with new combo.

Everyone suggests GMMG, but what about Braxxton? Are they the same? They offer a chambered intermidiate pipe, and it splits about 1-1/2 feet sooner than GMMG...right before going over the rear axle. This is confusing...

Nice sound, kind of reminds my true dual sound. No, my borla doesn't sound like yours. Similar at idle, but when reving it's a different story. Also, if I rev my car in neutral, it doesn't sound that bad, but if I rev the car under load at around 2500 rpm's, the car sound turns to sh*t.

Anyone else with Magnaflow's?

I need to quiet things down and also need a
small muffler to do it.
