Borla catback with new muffler?
Borla catback with new muffler?
Hey guys I need a little help here.
I had a little problem with my jack a few months ago. I won't get into it but the only thing that I damaged was my muffler and my pride.
I have the adjustable borla catback and I don't use any plates, so this really didn't bother me any. Well, I am starting to get annoyed with the sound. I love the sound at idle. I love the sound at WOT. The "no muffler sound" I get in between shifts and letting off the gas at high rpms sucks. It is a kackling (sp?) that makes me think of an old farm truck with glass packs, three shades of primer, and a fender flapping. Adjusting the system with plates makes it sound a lot better. However, even before the muffler being dented performance is noticably down with plates installed.
Has anyone replaced this muffler with a higher flowing unit? Borla Race series? Any suggestions?
Borla tech was not any help at all.
Thanks for your time.

From what i understand the Adjustable system running no plates lets 95% of the flow straight out the rear right pipe. Changing the muffler would be a waste unless you want to drop in one of the plates. Even then you said you dont like the no muffler sound, than you need a restrictive muffler that actually muffles to get that tone you want back, maybe a Hooker areochamber or something along those lines. As far as replacing it with some other Borla Muffler, your gonna have to find somebody who has one cause the people at Borla are next to Useless.
Thanks fbird, you are dead on saying that the people at borla are useless.
Yes, I do want to put a restrictive plate in the exhaust and route most of the exhaust through the muffler. This seems to be the cheapest route for me to go. My muffler is bent pretty good so I have been thinking about replacing it for a while. And, when I put the plate with the smallest hole in the exhaust it sounds a lot better. It just doesn't run nearly as good in the upper rpms.
The volume of the exhaust is great. I just don't like the back-off crackle.
Anyone have any other ideas? Anyone replaced this muffler? Or am I just dreaming? Does a very high flow muffler = a straight pipe sound?
I would like to stay with Borla if possible. Anybody else?
