Bogging in 6th gear
Bogging in 6th gear
Just like it says wether I'm at 50mph or 150 6th gear has no acceleration. Now some guy with a ss claims he can let the clutch out in 6th at a stop and roll.
I'm leaning towards an optispark.
Has new plugs
New wires

Re: Bogging in 6th gear
been many years since i was stock, but i dont remember 6th being able to accelerate much. specially at high speeds i would max out in 5th then shift to 6 and pretty much stay the same speed no matter how much gas i gave it. yes going that fast was retarded it was like 15 years ago lol
Re: Bogging in 6th gear
Haha yeah well If I punch it in 6th at 70 I would have mopeds leaving me in the dust it's so bad.
Also I forgot to mention that since this Trans am engine was dropped in, I haven't been able to use the data port. I was told there is a bad wire, I just don't know where to look. I had a stupid warranty on my car from bank so I had to take it to dealer when the motor blew. Needless to say it's a ****ing mess now.
I even had the shifter fly out getting on the hwy. not a happy person.

Re: Bogging in 6th gear
If you have 3.42 rear gears (standard with the T56) you will be at 1,600 RPM at 70 MPH. The T56's 6th gear overdrive ratio is 0.50:1. That means when you "punch" it in 6th at 70 MPH you have the engine at low rpm where there is little torque, and it will feel like you are acceleratiing with 1.71:1 rear axle ratio. 6th gear is not intended to be used to "punch" anything.
At 50 MPH you're only turning 1,370 RPM. Why would you expect it to accelerate?
Your results are totally predictable.
It won't even reach 150MPH in 6th... you have to downshift to 5th to max it out at about 156MPH.
PS: Please don't test the language filter.

Re: Bogging in 6th gear
That's the whole point we are trying to explain to you. To accelerate, you want the engine RPM up where it starts making decent torque, and you want the overall gear ratio (trans ratio X rear axle ratio) to be as numerically high as possible.
I will question "pull(ing) 140 in fourth gear like nothing". That would put you at 6,400 RPM. Do you have the RPM limiter removed from your PCM?
I also have a problem rationalizing that with your other thread that indicates you have blown your engine up at least twice.

Re: Bogging in 6th gear
I have a piggy back.
I shift at exactly 6400 rpm
The problem was a broke vacuum line on fuel pressure regulator. Now I can speed up from 55 to 70 without hesitation.

Re: Bogging in 6th gear
Still using piggyback to this day. As for the injectors I have them I my garage, they need to be brought into k and s fuel injection to get tested.
There was a half gallon of fuel in the oil pan during engine removal.
As for my car now, it's running great after a lot of vacuum line rerouting.
A stupid bank warranty had me taking my Camaro into a dealership. When I got it back; I had missing vacuum lines, missing ground wires, unplugged plug wires, bad icm, overheating, and last but not least the shifter flew into the back seat while driving.
I have a litigation meeting with the dealer In a few weeks. They charged 37.5 hours for a engine swap book time is 13 for direct swap and 23 for short block build swap.

Re: Bogging in 6th gear
When I say I shift at 6400 I don't mean everytime, I just mean that's as high as I can take it. I don't normally go over 80 rarely. If I take it to 100 it's maybe once or twice a month, since I have had the car, I have taken it up to 150 once.
